The Art of Garden Design
The art

A garden is an ongoing conversation between the plants, the place, and your dreams. It’s an art. Here are some tools to help you look at a garden from the point of view of the artist in you.

The spirit

When you look at a garden, drink it in, talk to it, listen to what it is saying to you. If you treasure it in your heart, and tell it you do, it will give you spiritual nourishment essential to your relationshipwith the earth. All art comes from love of the earth.

No division

There's no division between art and soul. Studying the elements of garden design is the same process — awed, respectful, careful attention — as contemplating the qualities of a flower. Here you will find notes on studying garden design, by yourself and with others.
